The Women of Barbados - Introduction
Since it's independence in 1966, Barbados has become one of the most traveled to island countries in the Lesser Antilles. Among the most popular Caribbean islands to visit next to Barbados are Cuba, Trinidad & Tobago, the US Virgin Islands, along with the Dominican Republic and so on. This Caribbean island has more than 260,000 Bajans residing on it with women outnumbering men with 913 men per 1000 women. With more women than men you'd think that Barbados would be a women-run island, but instead it's quite the opposite. Within the many different Caribbean islands, gender discrimination is shown & is very prevalent in today's times. In what ways does gender inequality show in Barbados today? In Barbados as well as many other Caribbean and non-Caribbean islands and countries, gender inequality can be shown through social media, unequal pay rates, as well as discrimination for certain jobs.
